-Jane Austen-
If one day we succeed in building a time machine, the human I would love to meet most, would be Jane Austen. You may ask why, what is so great about her?
Jane Austen is one of the most influential English writers. She was born in 1775 and sadly passed away in 1817 at the age of 41. She is one of the first writers that broke the perfection of characters, and created realistic characters and scenarios that fit in her era’s everyday life.
Her characters are very much like any other human, dealing with ordinary problems, having flaws and strengths, and we get to know their minds more by her use of a third-Person omniscient narrator. Her scenarios are often if not all the time about marriage, as in her time getting married and taking care of a family and a household were the only destiny for women.
Being a pretty and submissive female, with an empty mind made ladies the perfect candidates for marriage as in that way the man would do as he pleases, when he pleases, But Jane Austen as a cultivated woman broke the spell in an indirect way. She may not have defend women’s rights politically but she always addressed them in her literary works in a discreet yet apparent way by making her heroines strong, independent women, with intellectual thinking and high standards.
Jane Austen’s work has many different aspects that highlights women’s consciousness, intelligence, the importance of girls education, moralities, and many more. By merely using her intelligence, love for writing, and her amazing vocabulary, she was able to make a sizeable change in the way the world viewed women.
Despite her being a feminist writer, contrary to what some “feminists” believe and do today, she did not despise men, nor was she against marriage. Despite the fact that she passed away unmarried, like any human she always longed for love and companionship and because she may have failed to experience them in real life, she made her desires come true through her female characters.
Jane Austen was the first writer whose work I read in classics. Her mesmerising writing style and her unique way of bewitching the reader made me fall in love with classics. It was thanks to her that my mind obliterated the idea that classics are boring and hard to read. While classics are in fact sometimes challenging, judging by the levels of English used, they are still the best way to epand vocabulary.
The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid
