I have so much to say about this book so a tweet is not enough.
Violence has been present in this world long before societies were formed. The strong have always used their strength to feed on the weak, whether it is literally or metaphorically.
Most of us have been harmed by strangers in some way, in some period of our lives . It hurt us, we hated it, we tried to fight it, but we move on from it and just accept that life in unfair, we evolve and we become better at guarding ourselves. Some of us have been hurt by strangers. It hurt us, we hated it, we tried to fight it, we couldn’t totally move on from it, and it made us fear life because we could not accept its unfairness. Some of us have suffered because of people that were supposed to protect us, people that were supposed to love us unconditionally , and be our light in a dark world. It hurts us, we hated it, we tried to fight it, we never fully moved on. It made us scared to love and trust again, because if the person that is supposed to be your safe place doesn’t mind hurting what would stop a stranger from doing worse.
Colleen Hoover’s book covers all of these aspects. Dean and Sky were hurt by strangers at their school but they didn’t care, they simply accepted it as the world’s unfairness and moved on. Lessie was hurt by a stranger but she could never fully move on, no matter how much she laughed and seemed fine, it was always haunting her until she took her own life. Hope was used and hurt by her own dad. The person that was supposed to protect her from the pain of the world inflicted the most excruciating one.
In this world everyone is hurting, everyone was harmed in some way. It can be so small that it would seem insignificant or it can be so big that it would be shocking, but it still hurts. The thing this book made me think of, is that we need to validate each other’s feelings more, we should openly show each other that we can rely on each other, that way people that are being harmed won’t be scared of asking for help, and that could save so many lives.
Collen hoover’s books always touch me so deeply. They are a work of fiction but hold so much truth and facts from our everyday life . I hope from the deepest parts of my soul that any person being hurt or used in any way can find enough strength and courage to ask for help.
